Summer is usually a quiet time at the Clothing Bank, most people are on vacation and donations and demand for clothing are down significantly. But this year was different – we experienced our busiest time of the year so far.
During the holiday season, we managed to dispatch almost 10 tons of material aid, 9,612 kg of clothes in the form of crisis packages to be precise.
The largest volume (almost 8 tons) went to Food Banks for subsequent distribution to people in need, while the remaining 1,612 kg were provided to other cooperating organizations and individuals who contacted us via our online form to request help.
We were not alone in this challenging work.
We gratefully accepted the help of volunteers from Amazon and Česká spořitelna. Together we managed not only the distribution but also the important logistics that made everything run smoothly.
During the holidays we also actively cooperated with our colleagues in Slovakia, who are opening a new branch of the Clothing Bank in Bratislava these days.
We provided them with support and worked together to fine-tune the final details so that the team there can start providing assistance to those who need it most. This step is a big milestone for us and we are happy to see our mission to help grow beyond the Czech Republic.
This summer has also brought us an important collaboration of which we are particularly proud. Under the umbrella of the “We’re in this together” initiative, we established a partnership with the First Lady, Mrs. Eva Pavlova, the Federation of Food Banks and Furniture Banks. Together, we are creating a broader platform for providing assistance to those in need. Our goal is to address the problems associated with material need more effectively and comprehensively. The last days of August were marked by preparations for a major change in the form of a move to larger premises.
Our organization is growing, so we decided to move the Clothing Bank from the premises near the Prague Zoo to Prague 9, specifically to the Třeboradice district. As part of the “ball lightning” event, we managed the entire move in one day in the first week of September.
Material support from various companies was extremely important for us.
August brought us donations from companies such as Pumax, Košík.cz, Dětský svět Sluníčko Kyjov, MK life první pomoc dětem, BMW, Wiky, Allianz, Amazon, Kooperativa Plzeň, KPMG and Potex. We are especially grateful for the financial support of our general partner, JTI, which has been supporting us for a long time.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our summer work and helped us take a big step forward. The clothing bank is there for all who need us, and your support allows us to continue to provide this assistance.
If you are interested in joining, donating clothes or supporting us financially, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Together we can do more!
